Contemporary full polished calf, spines gilt ruled in six compartments with contrasting labels, double fillet borders on boards and edges gilt tooled, red sprinkled edges (some wear at corners and abrasion and discolouring on lower board of vol I). Pp. [ii] + xxxiv + 55 + [3] + 328 [&] [iv] + 385 + tables and index, illus with engraved frontispiece in vol I and 4 folding plates in vol II (previous owner's armorial bookplates on front paste-downs; no inscriptions).
